The Robert H. (Tex) McClain Jr. Distinguished Public Administration Award
 

This award is presented to an individual or group who is acknowledged as a results-oriented leader, whose contributions may encompass individual exemplary accomplishment or a long-standing series of achievements public service. The individual or group advances the art,science, and processes of public administration and the equality of opportunity of all persons through publicadministration in Massachusetts by demonstrating the expertise to:

•Lead and manage in public governance;
•Participate in and contribute to the policy process;
•Analyze, synthesize, think critically, solve problems and make decisions;
•Articulate and apply a public values perspective; and
•Communicate and interact productively with a diverse and changing workforce and citizenry.

The Marcia P. Crowley Distinguished Citizen Award


This award is presented to an individual or group who is
recognized as an outstanding leader/contributor in their
own field, whose contributions have benefited the citizens of Massachusetts, and who has demonstrated long-term support for public service in his/her professional capacity and personal efforts. The individual or group advances the
art, science, and processes of public administration and the equality of opportunity of all persons through public administration in Massachusetts by fostering the core public service values of ASPA, namely:

• Accountability and performance;
• Professionalism;
• Social equity; and
• Ethics at the local, national or international level.

The Distinguished Veteran Award
 

This award is presented to an individual who is recognized as
an outstanding U.S. Veteran who has exemplified leadership in his/her respective branch of the Armed Forces and community. The individual has contributed to the defense and security of the nation and state in an exceptional manner and has demonstrated public service in his/her
military and professional career and advances public administration and the equality of opportunity of all persons through public administration by fostering the core public service values of ASPA:

• Contributions above and beyond in service to the veteran community and their local communities;
• Leadership, dedication innovation and impact in serving this community
• Efforts that add to the powerful narrative that veterans are dedicated, lifelong public servants from whose efforts all of the communities stand to benefit;
• Actions Impacting not only the lives of those they serve, but also the overall advocacy effort for Massachusetts veterans; and
• Significant contributions in volunteer work in support of veterans and/or the military.

The Academic Award
 

This award is presented to an individual who is recognized as
a scholar of public administration, public policy, public affairs, public management, or related fields, who has demonstrated an exemplary record of published peer-reviewed and/or popular scholarship. The individual has contributed to the knowledge in the field related to
theoretical development or refinement, empirical investigations, or other substantial intellectual contributions
to public service, broadly understood. The individual recipient will have a research portfolio which exemplifies the following aspects of the research mission of ASPA:

• A publication record which makes significant contributions to the knowledge base which advances the science, processes, and art of
public administration;
• An academic record of publication and outreach which collects, compiles, and disseminates information on matters relating to public administration; and
• Has a demonstrated record of facilitating the exchange of knowledge and results of experiences between groups and among individuals interested in the field of public
administration

The Student Research Award


This award is presented to a graduate student (Master or Ph.D.) who has completed a capstone paper, thesis, or
dissertation focused on exploring issues of importance in public administration, public policy, public affairs, public management, or related fields. The individual will have
produced a dissertation or thesis which has been completed and approved by the student’s thesis or dissertation committee within the past 12 months. The individual will produce a capstone paper, thesis, or dissertation characterized by a rigorous research design, a compelling
research question(s), and an appropriate analytic approach
which yields new insights into vital questions in public administration, public policy, public affairs, public management, or related fields. The individual recipient will have produced a dissertation or thesis which exemplifies the following aspects of the research mission of ASPA:

• A capstone paper, thesis, or dissertation which makes a contribution to the knowledge
of the science, processes, and art of public administration;
• A capstone paper, thesis, or dissertation which collects, compiles, and disseminates information on a research question to public administration or related fields.

1. The individual's or group’s name, affiliation, and contact information;
2. The award for which you are nominating the individual or group;
3. Past achievements and/or professional experience and the reasons that you believe that this person should receive the award per the criteria above.
4. Your contact information.

 

The deadline for nominations is September 2nd, 2025.
All nominations will be referred for review and decision to a nomination committee whose members are New England ASPA past-presidents and current Council members. Nominees will be notified by the nomination committee. The New England ASPA Council and officers will certify and notify recipients and then make arrangements for them to attend the award presentation at our Annual Meeting on September 19th at 6:00 P.M.
